KINGSTON, JAMAICA – The West Indies Players’ Association (WIPA) whole-heartedly congratulates West Indies Women’s captain Hayley Matthews on winning the ICC Women’s T20I Cricketer of the Year 2023 Award.
Matthews had a record T20I outing in 2023, amassing 700 runs and 19 wickets in 14 matches, including a stellar performance against Australia, smashing 99*, followed by a blistering 132 from 64 balls in a run-chase of 213, the highest ever successful run-chase in women’s T20Is.
“Hayley Matthews has proven herself to be a distinguished all-rounder and had a remarkable year in 2023, she is certainly deserving of this award. On behalf of the executive, management, staff, and membership, I extend whole-hearted congratulations to Hayley, and wish her even greater success for the future”, remarked WIPA President and CEO, Wavell Hinds.
