KINGSTON, JAMAICA – The West Indies Players’ Association (WIPA) extends commendations to Sir Anderson Montgomery Everton Roberts on receiving an Honorary Doctor of Laws Degree from the University of the West Indies’ Five Islands Campus in Antigua.
Sir Roberts, Antiguan and West Indies cricket legend, is considered the father of modern West Indian fast bowling, and was the first Antiguan to play Test cricket for the West Indies. Sir Andy took 202 Test wickets in 47 matches, his 100th in just his 19th Test. He was inducted to the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame in 2009, a member of the inaugural induction class.
WIPA’s Honorary Treasurer, Ridley Jacobs, expressed his commendations: “Honor is simply the morality of superior men. Sir Andy Roberts, well done on your honorary doctorate. An honorable man restores the dignity of others.”
