GEORGETOWN, Guyana – West Indies assistant coach Roddy Estwick spoke to members of the media after the first One-Day International against India. The series is the MyTeam11 One-Day International Series, co-sponsored by Skoda and Fena.
Rain for most of the day caused several stoppages and only 13 overs were possible at the Guyana National Stadium. West Indies were asked to bat first and reached 54-1 before a heavy shower brought the match to an end shortly after 3pm.
Left-hander Evin Lewis made 40 not out off just 36 balls with two fours and three towering sixes over the leg-side boundaries. He shared an opening stand of 42 with Chris Gayle, who played his 299th match – which equalled Brian Lara for the most ODIs by a West Indian.
The two teams will now travel to Trinidad for the second and third matches of the series. First ball on Sunday at the Queen’s Park Oval is 9:30am (8:30am Jamaica Time).
“It was good to see Evin make a solid start and get a score today. The way he played was very pleasing … some really good shots against a high-quality bowling attack and gave us a good start. He is very important to this team. We move on to Trinidad now and the aim is to win.” Estwick said.
